Gandash

Gandash
(flourished ca. 1730 b.c.)
According to one of the surviving Meso-potamian king lists, the first king of the Kassite dynasty established in eastern Mesopotamia sometime in the late eighteenth century b.c. A surviving first-millennium b.c. text contains what purports to be a copy of one of Gandash's inscriptions. In it he brags about conquering Babylon. Modern scholars think this was blatant propaganda since all available evidence shows that the Kassites did not seize power in Babylon until the early sixteenth century b.c. The prevailing view is that Gandash (or Gaddash) and his immediate royal successors occupied a region near Babylon, probably around the former Sumerian city of Sippar, and perhaps posed an ongoing threat to Babylon.
